Abū Ḥanīfah al-Nuʿmān ibn Thābit

A school deeply attentive to transmitted texts while giving considered space to qiyās and juristic reasoning.

Historical Development

Established in the 2nd century AH by Abū Ḥanīfah in Kūfah.

Developed and codified by his students, particularly Abū Yūsuf and Muḥammad al-Shaybānī.

Became the official school of the Abbasid Caliphate and later the Ottoman Empire.

Spread extensively across Central Asia, the Levant, and the Indian subcontinent.

Remains the most widely followed school of Islamic law among contemporary Muslims.
