Ashʿarī Creed
A creed that preserves tanzīh and transcendence while engaging the language of kalām in defence of the transmitted texts.
Proofs & Evidence
- The attributes of Allāh are affirmed by the explicit statements of the Qurʾān: 'There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing' (Qurʾān 42:11).
- The Companions understood the attributes of Allāh in their apparent sense without distorting or denying them.
- The necessity of divine justice (ʿadl) in that Allāh cannot be unjust, as this contradicts His perfection.
- The validity of reason in understanding revelation, though reason must be subordinate to authentic transmitted texts.
- The doctrine of tawfīḍ (entrusting) regarding the manner of divine attributes, as proven by the Salaf's practice.
